Update 4

The 2019 AGM was held this year on 27 June 2019.

At the AGM it was decided that we would again be fielding 3 league teams to compete in the LRCA divisions 2, 3 and 5 respectively, during the 2019/20 season.

Because it was also unanimously agreed at the AGM to encourage more female players to start playing chess – seriously for fun – we now offer free membership to all female players at Kirby Castlers Chess Club.

The ECF (English Chess Federation) are currently promoting the recruitment of more women into the game nationwide and hope to double the overall female membership to 15%.  Currently the ECF female membership is only 7.5% of which 80% are under 21.  Apparently establishing Chess as England’s No.1 mind game could be crucial for the ECF’s ambition.

So, to all of you females in Kirby Muxloe and the surrounding areas, if you already think that chess is simply a good game, or you would like to increase your memory power or improve the well-being of your mind, please just come along to our club, you will find the address on our web site.

We are pleased to welcome 15 year old Yusuf Celik as one of our new members to the club this season, Yusuf is new to competitive chess but he is keen to start playing league chess and if our experience with other young players is anything to go by, he will soon be working his way up the rankings.

Of the 3 teams we entered for the 2018/19 season, the 1st team playing in division 2 were placed a very reasonable third just 3 points behind the joint winners on 24 points each.

The 2nd team were third from bottom and the 3rd team finished in the best position of all, providing your objective is to improve.

The situation with our persevering webmaster, Ewan has now been resolved and we are plugging away with our new web site, altering this and tweaking that, blissfully unaware of any damage we may be causing, albeit under the watchful eye of Ewan who remains on call should we be faced with any impending disasters.

The club members wish to place on record their ongoing appreciation of the time and effort that Ray Townsend and Paul Gray so willingly give in order to keep the wheels of Kirby Castlers well oiled.

Finally, our members are reminded that chess should be a pleasurable mental exercise and is freely available to be enjoyed by everyone.  Having done your best winning or losing is somewhat irrelevant….. just  ENJOY  YOUR  GAMES  !
